(Not dated) Janet Vass,
relict of the late Robert McKillop, died at the residence of her son, Donald McKillop, in Martintown Ont., aged 85 years. Deceased was the daughter of the late David Vass, and Isabella Smith, of Dundee PQ, and a sister to James Vass, who still resides on the old homestead, and is the only surviving member of a family of 12 children. She was an aunt to David Vass of Cazaville PQ, and Alexander and A W. Vass of Dundee. She was also an aunt to Mrs. John Wylie, whose death is just reported. Her parents and three children, together with the late William McDonald, (father of Mrs. Wylie) came to Canada from Inverness, Scotland, in the year 1823, and took up adjoining farms near St. Agnes. William McDonald afterwards married Nancy Vass, eldest daughter of David Vass to whom were born 10 children. The odd coincidence is that the death of the last, except one, of each of those large families occurred within four days of each other, and are both recorded in this issue of the gleaner, and that the only surviving member of each of the families reside on adjoining homesteads which were taken by their fathers on the same date ninety years ago. from the Gleaner, Ormstown, Que. -- added 6/29/13
